Rules – Weapon Use & Effectiveness

Two hands are required to wield large weapons, so as to prevent
uncontrolled use when the fighter is put under pressure. There can
be no thrusting with any weapons that have not been specifically
made for that purpose; and there can be no shield charging, boss,
or edge of shield use.
However, where swords and shields have been made for this specific
purpose, duals/1 on 1 fights will be permitted, between trained
and consenting participants who are wearing the necessary protection.
Effective ranges are given to prevent poorly aimed and misjudged
throws. No weapons can be thrown at participants where the public
viewing behind them could be hit – in short, no throwing towards
viewing public or within walkway areas.

All participants using thrust-safe and projectile weapons need
to demonstrate proficiency in there use and obtain the appropriate
certificate of competency, ideally on the Friday or Saturday. All
high quality replicas must confrom to the above lengths of musket/carbine.
A blocking Shield/Targe will reduce the effectiveness of shot by
minus 1 on the drawn bead.
If participants see that they have been shot, within range, and
with no one else nearby, they will drop to the ground and await
treatment. If a group is shot at, the leader will nominate who is
to fall – it is probably best to agree an order of “fall”
before a charge against firearms. The firearms group should also
agree an order of wounding in case they are fired on first. Damage
calls on opponents are inappropriate and will ruin the look &
atmosphere of the engagement. No such shouts please.
A Pistol and Musket Discharge Tax,
of 10coin, is levied to try and limit firearms use. This has to
be paid out of the groups coffers. If the outlaw group does not
pay, they will be excluded from the end of game coin-count. If the
Town Treasury has been taken over it will be up to controlling group
to enforce/collect this tax - there will be no penalty at coin count
if the cannot. As the game progresses, it will become more and more
important/crucial that the outlaws try and take over the Treasury
& Town.

The cost and supply of Powder & Shot will
also be a limiting factor on firearm use. The Militia, like
all other outlaw groups, do not have an inexhaustible amount
of Powder & Shot. Deliveries have to be made to Barracks
and the local Gun Merchant only has a limited supply before
receiving shipments. Ammunition & Gun shipments are usually
heavily guarded.
